New (old) Chair

I recently found this old aluminum chair at the local salvage store.
It was pretty nasty, with musty vinyl and flaking paint.

I found a nameplate on the bottom which read:
"Midwest Fireproofing Company"

I took the seat frame down to aluminum and polished/sealed it.
I also recovered the vinyl cushions and painted the base.

I'm pretty happy with it and it is now my new desk chair.

The Latest Project - Pietenpol Air Camper

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3b/Pietenpol.air.camper.g-buco.arp.jpg/300px-Pietenpol.air.camper.g-buco.arp.jpg

When I was a young kid my dad took flying lessons and my brother and I got to ride along.
Ever since then I've had a desire to fly. Over the course of time I discovered airplane home building (people building airplanes to fly). -See eaa.org for more info on home building.

Once I discovered that I could build my own plane I knew I really wanted to do it.
I had to wait a number of years but now the time has come and I have recently begun to construct an old time airplane.

It's called a "Pietenpol Air Camper." It's an old time type of airplane designed in the 1930's.
It's a plans built airplane - meaning that it's built from scratch following a set of blue prints.

The plane is constructed out of Sitka Spruce lumber and covered in cloth. It uses either a small 4 or 6 cylinder engine.

Right now I've just begun to work on the wings... and yes it's probably going to take a long time to finish.

More to come...

Cafe Racer

For this project I was asked to design and build a cafe racer seat
for a 70's Kawasaki KZ750 (with seating for a passenger).

I hammer formed the seat pan and rear fairing from sheet metal and painted/striped it to match
the original tank. The seat cushion is made of medical grade gel padding which I covered
with cowhide.

I also fabricated rear tail light and license plate brackets to work with the new seat.
Additionally, I installed new and less obtrusive turn signals and bar end mirrors.
